Dichroic & Irid Elements Workshop with Kimo Marion

Palolo artist Kimo Marion will teach a three weekend workshop where you will learn the principles and techniques of identifying and using iridized and dichroic glass in order to get consistent results. The workshop will cover both basic and advanced techniques. The focus will be on production of your designs, troubleshooting, avoiding common mistakes and applying what you learn to increasingly complex pieces over the three week session. Students should have taken an introductory glass fusing class and be comfortable cutting glass.

There is a supply fee of $50, payable to the instructor on the first day of class. Supplies included are dichroic and Iridescent glass, and use of the larger equipment (including firing).

Tools to Bring:

    • Eye protection*
    • Pair of running pliers
    • Two-wheeled glass cutters.
    • (This tool will be used a lot for fi ne work.)
    • Eye protection
    • Clear glass
    • Glass cleaner
    • Firing paper

*Eye protection is required for the class.

    What to Wear:

    • Closed toe shoes
    • Long pants

    About the Instructor:

Kimo has been using dichro and irid glass in his pieces for several years. He is fascinated by the endless variety achieved using these types of glass. He especially likes to make tiki figures.

    Location:

Temple Emanu-El, 2500 Pali Hwy., Honolulu, HI 96817
(Turn Left onto Jack Lane from Pali Hwy., and make your first left into the parking lot).

    About Registration:

Enrollment will be limited to 8 participants. End of registration is Oct 1. If more than 8 people sign up, there will be a lottery and people who do not get in will have their fees refunded and will be put on a wait list. We feel that this is the most equitable method to ensure that everyone has a chance to take the workshop rather than just the people who sign up first.

    Cancellations:

Enrolled participants may cancel up to 2 weeks before the fi rst class and get a full refund. After that date, if someone is found to take the workshop the fee will be refunded. If no one is found, the fee will not be refunded.

Note: Please do not bring outside scrap glass to class, we only use COE 96 glass and can not guarantee the glass you purchased elsewhere is the right coefficient for our firing schedule. COE 90 or non-fusing glass will contaminate our work space and cause problems if it gets into our scrap glass that is for sale.
