Tuesday Morning, Beginners Class

Do you love glass? Have you always wanted to try making your own fused glass work but didn't know where to start? Join us for the Tuesday morning Beginners Class and launch into glass fusion magic! Repeat students are encouraged - there is always something new to learn!

New students, your registration includes a small sampling of COE 96 glass colors and one sheet of clear glass to practice with, and a 12" x 12" sheet of shelf paper. Returning students, are able to purchase the starter pack for an additional $45 (Returning students: click "add starter pack" on the registration page if you want add this to your registration total).

Please bring all supplies to the first day of class.

Class Clean-up Session:
We ask that all students participate in the Studio Maintenance and Class Clean-up that is held between semesters. The date will be announced soon after class begins, or you can check our Class Cleanup page for more information. A reminder will be emailed to you before the end of the session.

Note: Please do not bring outside scrap glass to class, we only use COE 96 glass and cannot guarantee the glass you purchased elsewhere is the right coefficient for our firing schedule. COE 90 or non-fusing glass will contaminate our work space and cause problems if it gets into our scrap glass that is for sale.

Join Master Artist Bud Spindt for the Wednesday morning All Levels Class! Bud instructs beginner and intermediate students on glass fusing techniques while introducing tools used to accomplish your work. Bud structures his class where you bring a project idea, or have something in mind, and he helps you learn from start to finish how to fuse glass. Advanced students benefit from Bud's knowledge and experience, and it's just plain fun to be with other artists!

Wednesday Evening: Intermediate Stained Glass

Did you get the glass bug during Stained Glass for Beginner's? Here's where you get to continue building on the skills you learned with a pattern of your choosing! Pattern selection needs to be discussed with the instructor. You will need to enlarge and print 2 copies of the pattern. It is recommended to keep the piece count between 15-40 pieces and the pattern size can go up to 22" x 22."

This course has a pre-requisite of Stained Glass for Beginners.

The $35 supply fee is paid to the instructor during the first class and includes all supplies except for the glass for the project. Students will be given an approximate 24" x 24" homasote board to use during the class, if the student wishes to keep the board it is an additional $5. Glass should be purchased through the GFC online store for the first week of class. It is recommended to place your glass order the Sunday before class, so it will be available for the first class.

About the Instructor:
Katt Marshall has glass in her veins. Her exposure to glass arts started at a young age, as her mom was an avid stained glass artist in the mid to late 80s. However, Katt didn't catch the glass bug until completing her Interdisciplinary Crafts degree at Towson University in 2005. She strives to incorporate glass works into her life whenever she can. While earning her MA in Arts Administration and an MFA in Communication Design at Kuztown University, she geared many of her projects to include glass art components. She wanted to show how stained glass is a versatile storyboard from the creative to the designer.

Sunday Afternoon: Stained Glass for Beginners & Returning Students

Are you fascinated by stained glass? Have you ever wanted to try creating your own? In Stained Glass for Beginners, you will learn the basics of this unique glass art in five weeks! From proper tool usage, including how to safely score and break glass, you will complete your own 8" x 10 " stained glass window from a provided pattern. This course is perfect for inexperienced glass artists and glass fusers looking to expand their glass knowledge, and it is a great refresher course if it's been a while.

The $35 supply fee is paid to the instructor during the first class and includes all supplies except for the glass for the project. Glass should be purchased after choosing your pattern and purchased through the GFC online store for the second week of class.

Returning students - make sure to let Katt (marshallpkatt@gmail.com) know that you are joining the class! Your included supply list is a little different from the beginner supplies provided, unless you are doing a provided beginner pattern.

Are you a member that needs to cold work your glass project outside of class? Or you are a GFC member that has a home studio and needs access to our large equipment that we store outside? This registration allows you access to ONLY the outdoor equipment, for one evening.

You must know how to set up, use, clean up and put away the equipment by yourself. There will be no guidance from the studio monitor or instructor.

You must register 1 week prior to the day you want to come in. The monitor or instructor of the time that you want to come in will be notified of your registration so that they are aware you will be coming in. You are responsible for setting up the equipment without assistance and cleaning the equipment before the end of class. We have a Belt Sander, Lap Grinder, Sand Blaster, and Table Saw available for use.
