Wednesday Morning Session, All Levels Class

Do you love glass? Have you always wanted to try making your own fused glass work but didn't know where to start? Or are you experienced, but not ready to jump into independent studio? Join Master Artist Bud Spindt for the Wednesday morning All Levels Class! Bud instructs beginner and intermediate students on glass fusing techniques while introducing tools used to accomplish your work. Bud structures his class where you bring a project idea, or have something in mind, and he helps you learn from start to finish how to fuse glass. Advanced students benefit from Bud's knowledge and experience, and it's just plain fun to be with other artists!

New students, your registration includes a small sampling of COE 96 glass colors and one sheet of clear glass to practice with, and a 12" x 12" sheet of shelf paper. Returning students are able to purchase the starter pack for an additional $45 (Returning students: click "add starter pack" on the registration page if you want add this to your registration total).

Note: Please do not bring outside scrap glass to class, we only use COE 96 glass and cannot guarantee the glass you purchased elsewhere is the right coefficient for our firing schedule. COE 90 or non-fusing glass will contaminate our work space and cause problems if it gets into our scrap glass that is for sale.

Thursday Evening Session, All Levels Class

If you've ever wanted to work with glass but didn't know where to start, this is the class for you! Over ten weeks you'll build a real foundation in the craft — learning to cut and assemble glass, load the kiln, read firing schedules, and finish your work — with an emphasis on craftsmanship and technical skill so you understand not just what to do, but why it works. Whether you come in with a project idea already in mind or need help finding your direction, you'll leave with finished pieces you're proud of. There’s no experience necessary, and repeat students are encouraged - there is always something new to learn!

Saturday Afternoon, Independent Studio Session

Are you ready to take the leap and work on your own? Independent Studio is open to people that have taken at least 2 instructional classes with one of our instructors, or if you are experienced in glass fusing and would like an exception, please email us a request to join Independent Studio. Each studio session offers you a community to collaborate and share in the joy of fusing glass and making art! There is a studio monitor there to show people where studio equipment can be found, and to make sure the studio is tidy before everyone leaves. This studio monitor is not an instructor!

A GFC member who is not currently enrolled in this class or Independent Studio session may register to use the Outdoor Equipment Only, and not be enrolled in Independent Studio. This gives the member access to all the equipment that is in the outdoor area of the studio. It does not include the indoor grinders or glass cutting equipment. The available times are Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday evenings.

Member Registration for Ceramics, Textiles & Glass Fair at Washington Middle School

Members are you ready to sell your work? Register today for a spot at the Washington Middle School Art Fair! We are participating in partnership with Hawai'i Handweavers' Hui, and Oahu Potters Association. Mark your calendar, gather your friends, and join us for a day of creativity, community, and craftsmanship! Open to all fused glass art students featuring any style or type of work they wish to sell. You will need to price your work and provide sales sheets before arriving. You can download the EXCEL form here, and upload it on the registration form (there is a link for you to check that you have downloaded the form).

If selling your work, you will need to select a volunteer time slot so we know the booth is covered from setup to breakdown. You may volunteer if you do not want to sell anything.

If you’ve wanted to try glass fusing but aren't ready to commit to our full 10-week class, this hands-on introductory class is for you! In just one session you’ll learn the fundamentals of kiln-formed glass art and leave with a beautiful fused glass piece that you made yourself. No experience necessary. All materials and tools are provided.

We’ll start with a brief introduction to the studio, the tools, and the materials, covering everything you need to know to work safely and confidently with glass. You’ll learn how glass fusing works, why compatible glass is essential, and how to measure, cut, and assemble glass. Then you’ll get to work by choosing your colors, cutting your glass, and assembling your own one-of-a-kind piece.

After class, we’ll fuse your creation in our kiln, then slump into a mold to give it shape. Your finished piece will be ready for pickup at the studio within 2 weeks. We’ll send you an email when it’s ready.

All GFC members and their guests/family members are welcome. We will eat, share our works, and then have our annual meeting!

We encourage everyone to bring a piece to show and tell, we don't always get to see everyone in one spot together.

Temple's Dietary Restrictions:

Please note, the Temple requires that we do not bring certain foods to our events. Acceptable meats include beef, lamb and goat. They have split hooves and chew their cud. Basically vegetarians. They should not be mixed or served with dairy as in no cheese burgers or meat lasagne.
Chicken, duck, goose and turkey are also counted as acceptable meat fair. The orthodox would also shun having dairy with them at the same time, however we are a reform temple and it’s a grey area since they don’t nourish their young with mothers milk.
Fish need to have fins and scales (when living not when serving) so no shellfish or mollusks, but can be served with dairy or meat as can anything with eggs.
Overall no predators or scavengers. No pigs, they eat unclean foods so are considered unclean. If you plan to get Chinese carry out, please do not bring char siu and kau yuk, etc…. As well as shrimp and squid, etc…
